30 klms outside of Gladstone, Qld. Spectators flock to take photos of this amazing event as this is the first time in 14 years water is cascading over the spillway with flying barramundi making the great escape and travel there way to the Boyne River Mouth out to sea. It has been reported that the dam officially peaked its highest water level mark in history, peaking at 40 metres. As a resulted the dams overflowing abundance of water catchment has inundating Lake Awoonga's recreational areas, including playgrounds and sinking trailers and boats waiting rescuing.

The Gladstone Observer reports "The spill-over is the first since the dam was raised by the Gladstone Area Water Board (GAWB) from 30 to 40 metres in 2002. This increased the storage capacity of the dam from 283,000 megalitres (ML) to 777,000 ML, making it the fourth largest water storage in Queensland".
